ok, so i have a 50 horse power evinrude that i am trying to hook up and get running again. I have found some sort of electical connection that has muliple sprongs on it. It connects to the consol of the boat. Will i need this to try to start the motor. Can i just use the normal electical cables

  1. could be for on/off ignition switch

  2. If there is already an ignition key setup, then this extra plug would be for a tachometer and optional trim/tilt indicator and even battery voltage meter. Probably all three are available in one combination gauge if you wanted to spend the money.

  3. There is purple hot> & tan together that's the alarm> White or yellow is the emergency shut off>gray & purple hot>tack> Blue lights> tack & guages>

  4. what year?

    how many "sprongs"?

    what "normal electric cables"?

2-cylinder 'rude has one wiring harness that connects to the boat wiring harness.  Mid-70's & later has 6 wires that connect to the keyswitch plus one tan (warning horn) and one gray (tach sender) and possibly power tilt & trim wiring which might be a separate harness depending on your model.
