On my HP pavilion dv6700

on my HP pavilion dv6700 entertainment notebook pc, I can`t play DVD`s of any kind. it plays for a little while, say 1/2 hour into the movie, then freezes up so bad, I have to hard boot I did a self test on the harddrive. all tests passed. could my DVD player drive being bad? I only had this notebook for about 3 months now.
