Are those something special? Are they easier to ski on? The people skiing on them seem to do very well with them.

I think they called them blades or something when I asked them

  1. You are suffering from Blakes' Syndrome. It's a mild form of snowblindness. It truncates your vision laterally, but not vertically, so people's skis look shorter than they really are. Did you notice that these skiers also looked tall and slim? Although the mountains still look the right height, the trails look very narrow. It can be scary. Youtube is well aware of this condition in skiers and therefore compensates for it by stretching the horizontal hold in its ski videos. Unfortunately, for unaffected video watchers this makes the ski racers look as though they are skiing on long skis. The people you asked were trying to tell you that you had Blakes', but you mistakenly heard "Blades".

  2. What you saw was "Ski blade".

  3. trick ski's there just that and there harder to control and u dont get as much speed

  4. They may be simpler as they is less friction, but becareful if you slide too fast and find it harder to stop.

  5. Small ski's are both good and bad. If you're just starting out stick with regular one. Smaller ones you can turn faster but it's harder to stop. I like the regular ones the best.

  6. you can rent them if you want to try them

at the rental shop instead of getting skis

  7. Skiblades, snowblades...call them what you want.

They are designed for doing tricks in the terrain park and the half-pipe. A lot of people use them all over the mountain, but they really aren't designed for it.

Some people say snoblades are used by people who are not good enough to do tricks on regular skis. But a lot of people like them and it's no big deal to me. If that's what floats your boat...great. If you are having fun, that's what matters. People make fun of telemark skiers like me and say it is dumb too...but who cares. That's fun too.

The only good, practical use I have for them is when I'm teaching a handicapped skier who is using a sit-down mono-ski. They allow me to get in very close behind the mono-skier's rig if needed...but I've only worn them once when I was teaching a handicapped skier...I mostly used my regular skis.

Snoblades aren't for me, but I think everyone should try them once. Maybe you'll like them...maybe you won't.
