On my profile page where the "instant message" is, why is the Smiley face sometimes yellow and other times gre

whenever you are availabe in y! messenger this smiley is yellow and whenever you are not online or you are invisible to anyone this is gray.It is the way your friends and other people can see your online status.you can change this setting in order to have always a gray smiley(in this way no one will be notifed if you are online)to change this setting go to your y!360 home page,then select "settings",on the second page of setting onthe part of "yahoo!messenger" check the box which says "Check this box to hide your online status from other people on Yahoo! 360°"

It is gray when that person is not on Y/M. It is yellow when that person is on Y/M.

This feature involves Yahoo! Messenger (http://messenger.yahoo.com )- Yahoo's chatting/instant messaging program. When a 360 user has logged into Y!M, the smiley face turns yellow. See http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/360/hom... for more details.

UPDATE: The 360 user has to have their 360 permissions set up for you to IM them - typically the words "Online IM" will appear near the emoticon (the smiley face). Also, the emoticon will remain gray if they set their IM status to invisible through their 360 settings.
