I live on a tiny residential street, so tiny there is only one street lamp but there is no posted speed limit, what should I assume the speed limit is in this case? There are two major streets on either end both with a speed limit of 35mph, so what should I assume as my street's? Thanks.

  1. the same as others around you. this is a case where judgement comes into play.

  2. How close are the houses together? Are there kids around? Are the roads in good condition?  I would guesstimate about 20 to 25 mph. You might be able to get away with 30 mph but you may need to use your best judgment. Expect the unexpected. It only takes a second for a tragedy to occur that could have easily been prevented.

  3. all city streets in my town are 25mph yours most likely are too

  4. The general rule is between 20 to 25 miles per hour plain and simple but if there are cars parked on the sides and there are children around I would treat this like a school zone and drive 20 miles per hour...

  5. drive at a really high speed and see what the police do :)

  6. Technically, an unposted road is 55mph. But an unposted residential area is 25. I would just play it safe and run 25.

  7. the speed limit on a residential street in any U.S. town or city is 25 mph unless other wise posted
