Alright, I'm on a summer swim team. I guess I get pretty competative. I had to start practice 2 or 3 weeks after the other girls, and we practice 5 days a week with meets on tuesdays, thursdays and saturdays. I'm feeling very slow compared to the rest of my team. :( What can I do in and out of the water to help my self get better? Oh, and also, how can I get better for my high school swim team that I'm going to try out for? I'm going to be a freshman! Thanks for your help!

  1. the more you swim the better you'll get, my freshman year i did two hours of morning practice and three in the afternoon. swimming is a lifestyle, just try to swim as much as you can and i'd recommend you to rest a lot so that you are in best conditions not just for swim meets but for practices. keep up with your yardage and remember that for begginners more means better...as you get more competitive that changes

  2. good job for wanting to improve thats the first step. Now, in practice see if u can figure out the girl that swims the closest to your own speed. be sure to go in the lane next to her and for every drill, race her. the most important thing is persistence. try not to skip a swim practice. it will be hard but if you stop for two days you loose everything you have just gained. good luck...swim fast xoxo lysssa

  3. Keep practicing. Also cross train: run stairs and do box jumps (this will improve your start time), do ab workouts. Also refrain from drinking any caffeine. Caffeine is bad for athletes and will slow you down. Refrain from eating a ton of c**p food and eat more protein. You use a lot of protein when you swim and in order to keep yourself in shape and improving you need to not become tired and weak. Also watch what you eat at swim meets. On your own time work on perfecting your starts and flip turns as those can be crucial to shaving time off.

  4. im on my summer team too and i started about 2 weeks after everyone else.  being competetive will help you because you will want to keep up with the others, i would suggest running or riding your bike and do pushups!  They will help your arm muscles in the water  Have FUN!!!!! and thats what I do, it works!

  5. well....during practice, you need to at least TRY as hard as you can to keep up with everyone behind you, and try to beat them. outside of the water, you can just try stretching to improve your flexibility, and do plenty of crunches and push ups

  6. Just keep praticing! That's the only way you'll get better. If your hurting, push harder. Look at the other girl's times and make yourself go faster then them. For dryland pratice- try running, long and short distances. Also, lift lighter weights to tone your muscles. Push-ups and sit-ups also help a lot! Make sure your eating right, too. No soda or junk food. EVER! Lots of water. As for you try-outs, I'm going to be a freshman next year, too, but I'm already praticing with the high school team. Just don't worry, and try your hardest! Good luck and I hope you make the team! Swimming pwns! XD
