I just want to know if you can equate distance (accurately) when walking and watching the longitude numbers change

  1. Unlike lines of latitude, which remain the same distance apart all over the Earth, lines of longitude are farther apart at the equator and come together at the poles.  For this reason degree length changes depending on your latitude.  If you are moving directly east-west and you know your latitude, you can calculate degree length.

Latitude________Surface distance per 1° change in longitude

    0°_____________111.320 km

    15°____________107.551 km

    30°____________96.486 km

    45°____________78.847 km

    60°____________55.800 km

    75°____________28.902 km

    90°____________0.000 km

    See:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Longitude#D...

I think it's easier just to get a pedometer...
