  1. This happens to me on on 2 of 4 computers, the Compaq and the HP, since they are both owned by HP, I suspect it's got something to do with the inner set-up of the network card.  My Toshiba laptop and my custom built do not have this issue.

Basically as long as it's working, just go with it.  If you find that you actually don't have a connection (the error pic is actually right for a change) then you can click on the computer icon with the red x on it, select your network, then disconnect and re-connect.

  2. i bet you are using the cable connection but it is showing the wireless is not connected, or vice versa.

  3. What kind of connection do you have?

If you're using ethernet (wired) connection and your computer has 2 network cards, then it may be showing you only the port that has no wire on it.....Windows XP usually hides the ones that are connected (unless you change that setting)

  4. best way to check the internet is go to a news web site, to see if its current. You do this because websites are downloaded to your pc, and retrived from there if you visit them again as its quicker. Before this happens if will check to see which is more upto date.

    Check www.bbc.co.uk

  5. Is there no icon, I'm going to assume that that is what you are asking. In the start menu, click on Network Connections, or control panel, if it's not there. Once in the Network Connections menu, right click on the connection you have, and select Properties, there there should be an option called Show Icon in Notification Area When Connected. select the check box next to it and click Ok. Now you have a network icon.

  6. No, you're misunderstanding the information that is presented to you. What you are being told is that one network interface does not have a connection - you probably have more than one, hence your network connection being OK.

  7. If you are connected to the internet through wires (phone or Cable) you will get the internet

The Monitor signal at the bottom is to show Wireless connection.

If you are using wireless and still show no connection...You got Me, I don't know.

  8. Be sure that you are not confusing the different connections, one maybe for local and the other maybe for wireless. Depending on which one you use the other will say its not connected.

  9. You may have more than 1 network port in your machine.  If the second one is not plugged in, it will show it isn't connected but since the other one is the internet works.
