On our space missions, what do they use diamonds and gold for?

Gold is the most efficient conductor known (of heat and electricity)

so you'll see it as a heat shield, a wrapping around things.

and also used as wire, and contacts

Diamonds are a girl's best friend so the astronauts bring some in case they run into aliens and it turns out they ARE like Abbot and Costello pictured them (Amazons friom Venus)...so then we'll be able to bribe them not to take  the Earth over,  and turn all the men into slaves).

Either that or they are very good for cutting (just as gold is best conductor,  diamonds are hardest known substance...

but thats just a guess

so Im sticking with the Amazons from Venus reason

Am sure about the gold though, That was true.

Look at old pictures of satellites and even the LEM, youll see gold wrap

EDIT - well apparently Faesson is right. Therefore the gold and diamonds must just be about putting on some bling , to look our best, in case we run into anybody out there.

actually, there are at least three substances harder than diamond, and silver is a better conductor of both heat and electricity... oddly, so is diamond.

Hence they wear diamonds and gold.

Gold because it does not react with chemicals, corrode or tarnish. Same reasons dentists use it on teeth.

Jewels are often used for bearings because they can be polished ultra smooth and diamonds, especially, would not wear.

I know gold has long been used as a coating for the visors on the astronauts' space suits. If you look at pictures of astronauts on the moon, that's the reason their visors are a gold color.
