Question:

On photoshop, how do i eliminate the background and just have the outline of a picture?

for example.... if i had a picture of a car and there's stuff in the background but all i want is the exact shape of the car..how do i get rid of everything else that's in the background? i don't even want everything else to be a solid color, i just want it gone. please help!

  1. You need to use the Extract command under Filters. Read the Help files on how to use it.


  2. open image, duplicate layer, outline the shape of the car, with lasso or polygon tool , or use pen tool to outline shape and convert to selection, invert selection to outer area and delete, make background layer hidden or delete, may be good idea to keep all layers as psd file, and save copies as other file gif, png, jpg,

    if you only want outline or silhouette of image you can create another layer of selection and fill with black,

    to save car without any thing around, you save as png or gif with transparency, ~if animated, you save as gif for now,

    jpg will save with white background,

    ..

  3. Click the eye next to the background layer and save the image as a gif
