  1. No obligation to do so, but your prospective employer will ask for a reference, so your present one will find out.

Usually if you are going to a competitor, your present employer will pay you in lieu of notice and escort you off the premises.

  2. Not unless you want to...

  3. Nope, unless you want to tell them 'where to go...'

  4. Depends on your contract. In most cases, no you don't have to inform your employer of where you're moving to but if you've had access to sensitive company secrets (customer lists/source code) you may have clause in your contract that states you cannot move to a competitor.

If you have a clause like this then it may be in your best interests to inform them to put their minds at rest you're not in breach of contract.

Equally if you're moving to a competitor and don't have the clause in your contract then they may well put you on garden leave for your notice period.

  5. I dont think there is anything legal that says you have to!! If you have written them down as a reference they may find it polite to tell them that they may be receiving a letter with regards to a reference in the future.

  6. No you are not obliged to tell them, but when your new employer asks for a reference they will probably find out.

  7. tell them nowt none there business as long they have yr contact  and bank details so they can pay u

  8. Generally no.

However ,some contracts of employment do have clauses forbidding you from moving to a direct competitor within (usually) a 12 month period of leaving your present employment.

Doubtful if such clauses would stand up in a Court as they are a "restriction of trade".  But if your present employers are bloody minded it can lead to a load of hassle.

On balance just leave and don't tell them anything.

  9. No, you're not obliged to tell them anything.

However, if you're leaving for financial reasons, you can tell them you've got a much better offer elsewhere and see what happens...
