Question:

On rest days does your body need the same amount of calories?

I read that your body gets accustomed to burning the same amount, for example if on most days you're exercising and you take a day off, your body burns about the same?

Some people say you need less calories on rest days but for someone who exercises most days I feel like I'm more hungry on my rest days!

  1. You're right.  The human body is extremely good at adapting.

Your body will not waste away if, on some days, your calories are low.  It's actually good because it keeps the body guessing.

The best thing to do is workout your calories needed per day.  I mean just to live your life.  You need your Basal Metabolic Rate.

Go to http://walking.about.com/cs/calories/l/b... and work it out.  (Rework it if your weight changes).

Remember that activity level is not including exercise.

If you want to find out your calories for exercise while maintaining your current weight go to www.stevenscreek.com/goodies/calories.ht...

If you want to gain weight or lose weight then add or subtract 300 calories.  The figure may need to be changed if you aren't gaining or losing but work on a week by week basis.

So on your rest days you only need your base calories.  Though if you are losing or gaining then you still need to add or subtract those 300 calories on those days.

  2. Calories are being burn due to your active states ... so if you are not active (in off days for example) then your body won't use the same amounts of calories !

visit this blog http://flat-stomach-tummy.blogspot.com you'll find an articles about calories and fat ... and food .. and lots of helpful tips and information .. and lots of exercises you can make at home .. good luck

  3. Not really, depends on your normal diet.

If you have a lot of "rest days" then no, you should aim at a lower calorie intake.

If its a one off, it doesnt really matter, a couple of more calories wont do you any damage.

Calories are there to give you energy, your body needs them to work, if your body doesnt need them because your not doing any serious exercise they turn into fat, but one rest day wont do you any harm
