  1. You can and are encouraged to work while on SSI or SSDI, and SSI offers the "ticket to work" program. That means that once you start working somewhere, you keep your entire benefits for a certain amount of time before they starting taking some dollars away from your check. Bottom line is, you have to report whatever you are working to the Social Security Administration, and they determine based on the amount you worked and earned, how much they will take out of your SSI or SSDI check. Actually, I know people that work part-time and get to keep their SSI integrally because they don't make more than what the law allows in order to keep their benefits. Additionally, they also get Medicaid (which is great health insurance and prescription coverage) for a very small premium determined by the amount of earned (worked for) income. SSDI usually allows you to have Medicare as your medical coverage after you have been on it long enough. Medicare cannot be taken away from you once you have it, as long as you pay whatever is needed to keep it. This is how some people with SSI and SSDI end up with 2 kinds of medical coverage, Medicaid (referred to as MA or Access sometimes), AND Medicare. 2. It is my understanding before you can even get SSI disability, you cant have worked for a year.  So, therefore you cant worrk while on disability.

In regards to insurance the only thing you could/would qualify for is Medicaid.
