Do I have to have two tickets to win? Or is powerplay different although related to powerball? I've never played powerball before, so any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

  1. Power play is a multiplier.  When you purchase a ticket you can choose to pay an extra dollar for each set of numbers.  So if you pick five lines of numbers it would cost $10 instead of $5.

Each draw the multiplier randomly changes between 2 and 5.

Any prize you win EXCEPT the jackpot is multiplied by whatever the multiplier is that time around.

So the best case scenario is if you win the second biggest prize, and the multiplier is x5 you'd win one million dollars instead of $200K.

The question is, if you purchased 10 lines instead of 5 with the multiplier, wouldn't that give you twice as many shots at winning a prize?

You have to decide which you think is the better deal.
