On the Way to Shame… http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750!
India’s poor performance in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mark-Chilton-c1900 cake for their most loyal fans but also a big treat for the critics. Both are ready to cut the team’s neck down with their knives out. The former No.1 ranked team has fallen well short in their conquest to gain supremacy Down Under, due to a lack of conviction in all departments of the game. Not a single player worth their salt won any significant attention in terms of their performances, sealing their side’s humiliating 4-0 fate.
On the other hand, Australia performed well above expectations, knocking India out of their high perch. This was India’s second consecutive whitewash overseas. Prior to the annihilation Down Under, it was http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 that had performed similar honours on the Indian cricket team abilities last year in the summer.
Once again the poor performance has raised the debate regarding the fate of the senior players – ‘respect or remove’. On the one side, there remains a lack of consistency by the senior players; the likes of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/VVS-Laxman-c2772 have underperformed, which has disappointed the stakeholders i.e. the fans and the cricket board.
On the flipside, these senior players have led India to the zenith of Test cricket, on the back of some memorable match winning knocks. The most notable performance over the last decade has to be against the Aussies in 2001. Who can forget the infamous Kolkata Test? http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sourav-Chandidas-Ganguly-c90746, the former skipper, believes that the old hands must be shown respect in regard to their experience and past heroics for the country.
“The greats in the team are nearing 40 but the cricket fraternity must show respect to them. I don't disagree with the notion that performance is the sole criteria for picking teams, but the seniors need to be handled properly. They are mature enough to know what is right for the team and they should be allowed to decide when they want to go,” he wrote in his column published in a national newspaper.
All of them are bogged down by expectations. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Chinnadupargea-Sachin-c50607, the Little Master is struggling to get the elusive and impending 100th century of his international career. Sehwag struggles to emulate his form overseas that he shows in the Sub Continent. Dravid and Laxman struggled, and age might slowly be catching up with them.
As for the current captain Dhoni, he has been found wanting in conditions which offer pace and bounce, where as his bottom hand technique will always come under scrutiny. All such frailties have come to the surface, when they do not play on flat tracks back home.
As far as the bowling line-up is concerned, each one displayed little precision in countering the attacking nature of the Kangaroos’ batsmen. After the embarrassing capitulation in the longer version, the team is set to blow the fans all over again in the upcoming triangular ODI series- a format much familiar to their liking, so keep the fingers crossed, wink!
Anyways, in general opinion, it’s too much cricket which has made Indian cricket vulnerable over the past few months. While they displayed glimpses of Team spirit but turning that into a wining spirit was evidently missing. Despite having a power packed batting line-up, they fell short of setting defendable targets. Fielding was also a weakness, considering the age factor. Unfortunately, the Indian fans have received some major disappointments from their team’s last two series.
It has now become a real challenge for the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to reform the team, and improve its performance in order to regain the glory their side has attained in the past. Let’s see what corrective measures the BCCI takes to snatch back the position, which was attained in so much time, and lost in no time.
