"Prospective transfers who do not meet all of the requirements at this time will be offered an alternate major option, or admission as a proposed major so that they may complete the program entrance requirements at the University."

Does this mean that the student should apply for the major that they want, even if they might not get into it the school will help them find a way into it?

  1. It means that the major has a gpa or prerequisite classes for admittance. Thats how it is with every major at my school.

When they accept you to the school they accept you as either a pre-major, like pre-biology (if you specify on the application you want to do biology) or if you do not specify a major, or do not have gpa requirement for that major, the accept you as "university studies".

I transfered to a University and I was declared psych major at my previous university. The school I transfered to had both a gpa requirement and pre-requisite classes you need to take in order to qualify for the psych major, so I transfered and was accepted as "pre-psychology" meaning I was not a declared major, but I was on the path to that major once I finished the pre-reqs.

Apply for the major you want and if you meet the admissions requirements to the school itself they will accept you no matter what, but classify you as either a proposed/pre major or a university studies student until you have met the requirements to declare a major at their school.

  2. Yep.

  3. Some majors have GPA requirements or coursework requirements (nursing, engineering, etc) that you may not meet, but you are still qualified to get into the university - so if you apply for the nursing program, say, and don't qualify for that but can still be accepted into the university, they'll take you in and you can work on the requirements to get into the nursing program later.
