On the bright side if McCain did croak while in office?

Have you considered that if John McCain were to croak while in office and Palin were to be bumped up to President it would be a blessing insomuch as Nancy Pelosi would then be Vice President?

Wrong, the new president gets to choose the next VP.  Pelosi is third in line to president, but both president and vice president have to both be killed for her to move up.

Sorry Ervin. Your logic is faulty.

If McCain dies in office, Palin becomes President and is allowed to appoint her VP. The nominee becomes the VP once both Houses of Congress have approved with a majority vote.

Your logic, however, is valid if the President and VP are killed simultaneously or before the President can appoint a new VP.
