on the bus, why do people get off their seat when the stop is so far away. They are sitting, they ring the bell, and get off the seat like a minute or more, before it is their stop. I wait until the bus is almost stopped before I get out of my seat, and to the door. The driver doesnt have to wait for me, and I get off the same times as people who get off their seat a minute or two before their stop.

So why do they do this, its not like they will forget to get off, and the driver knows to stop since the bell has been rung.

  1. Buses in NY also has similar situation.

Mostly like in crowded or less crowded buses, lots of passengers want to be to be by near doors, so they could exit easily.

In crowded buses, people sitting stand up when bus is about come to stop, so other passengers can sit down.

Most people who doesn't know buses well, they stand up from their seat and go to door.

  2. So that they are the first ones out and not a cofuffle. I always do, only because sometimes the bus driver doesnt stop because people mess about with the bells so they dont know if its real or not so i have to tell him/her. & its so crowded i like to get off first

i know what yah mean though

  3. have no idea i get off my  seat on the bus as soon as the bus pulls up at the stop but on the trams i get up half-way through stops

  4. It's better to be close to the door when the bus stops, so you can hop off straight away to save time.

It's silly to wait for the bus to stop, then get up to leave. I've seen people miss their stop for this. It also wastes time for all other bus users.

  5. they ring the bell then get up to head to the door.  this is to allow someone else the opportunity to sit down, and to easily make their way to the door.  if the bus is crowded, the time to drive to their stop is taken up dodging and squeezing past the crowd.  have you ever rung the bell, and when the bus pulled over you jumped up and off the bus, only to realize as it drives away that you left your ............ on the bus? taking ones time to get to the door allows the memory to kick in before leaving the bus and your package on the seat..

  6. they don't like to take things sitting down

  7. because they are werid

  8. Sometimes if you take too long, the driver will think that someone is playing with the bell.

But my best answer will be what we called the"human error".

Next time you're on a bus, try to sit in front of the driver and look at his eyes (where he's watching). Most of the time, he will be staring at the rear view mirror to see whether any passengers wants to get down.

This is because when a person rings the bell, the driver could have lapsed his concentration and forgot that someone actually rang the bell. So, the safest way is to make sure by looking at the rear view mirror! Of course, this would not apply in a "sardines" situation where the bus is fully packed.

In my view, If the bus is fully packed, you will help the driver and other passengers by getting off your seat early as it saves time and avoids other passengers discomfort

  9. maybe to make room for the other passengers?
