On the comp, how can you enlarge a .jpg or other photo file w/ out affecting blurryness?

I have photoshop, but dont know how to keep it from getting blurry. what other programs on the comp or ways to enlarge the picture?

  1. First try opening new word document and dragging and dropping the .jpg and then re-size it in word.  I use that a lot for pics from the camera to set up a photo album.  

    If that is blurrier.

    Then in photoshop, increase the increase the resolution to 300 dpi in the photoshop, perhaps sharpen the picture  and then same as above.

    If the .jpg started out blurry, low resolution like 72 dpi there isn't much you can do.


  2. .jpg photos are going to lose some definition when you enlarge them, as will most other formats.  

    NOTE:  Even professional photographs, on film, will lose definition if enlarged too much!

    My experience, starting with originals that are 24"x36" when scanned, or about that size, enlarge or reduce best in the .tiff format.  ( I enlarge and/or reduce plans quite often, but not photographs very often in a 'digital' mode.)
