  1. nothing  really  is  wrong  that i can see  as long as  your  doing the  speed  limit and  when going back into gear  your  not  grinding  gears

  2. I used to freewheel on I-68 West of Sideling Hill Mountain and the car would go over 100 MPH on the downhill; I could feel control slipping away at any minute.  I had to rev the car almost to redline to re-engage 5th gear, which eventually resulted in a toast clutch a few thousand miles later.

  3. When you take the car out of gear, you lose the ability to control the car's speed through the gearbox. This loss of control is a criminal offence in its own right, punishable by a far stiffer penalty than mere speeding.

What worries me though is why you are asking the question. If you did not know the answer, then what other irregularities are you guilty of as a driver?

  4. What you are doing is called "freewheeling" and in the majority of states it's illegal. The legal term is "failure to have your vehicle under control". And every time you disengage and reengage the transmission at highway speeds, you put unnecessary shock load on the internal parts. And I don't care how much you coast, you'll never save enough to offset replacing the trans.

  5. eventually, you're going to have to put it in gear and speed up again, and this uses more gas than maintaining a steady speed.

  6. you will have less control  of the car  The engine does some braking for you  and if you need to get out of the way in a split second you will not be able to  when u put the car in gear with  your foot on the floor at high rps it hard on drive train. When going down hill  u have to use your breaks more causing them to over heat an fail  You might not be able to stop before the crunch

Its not relay a fuel saver   but hey its your car drive it they way you want   its your money  to pay to fix it also
