  1. I usually do about 3 mph over the limit and have passed numerous Smokies on I-27 without any response.  These Texas boys can get a little rowdy if you push them, but 3 or 4 mph usually won't get you stopped around here.

  2. Personally, when I see a cop I don't think,"hmmm..., let's see what he will allow me to get away with. You have long time veteran cops who don't think 5 over is a big issue and you have rookie cops who are trying to give a good impression. It varies from state to state, cop to cop, trooper to trooper, whether or not you're going with the flow of traffic or if you're just driving alone, the kind of car you drive( a 1979 Toyota Corolla or a 2007 Ferrari), the time of the month, if you have an infraction on your vehicle( broken taillight, broken headlight, cracked windshield), if you're being chased by the police,if you're rushing someone or something to the hospital...

  3. Legally, it's 0mph but they do give you a margin of error, I believe 2.5mph.

  4. Legally, zero.  I'm not aware of a single state that will LEGALLY allow you to drive above the posted speed limit.

However, practically speaking, most police departments and highway patrol departments have an unofficial rule of 5-7 mph over the limit, just to account for inaccurate speedometers, temporary fluctuations, etc.  But this is a courtesy, and not a defense in court.

  5. In Aust we USED to get 3% allowanceof the actual limit, over the limit, but the money n**i's have now canned it.

    1K/MH over you get done

  6. it really depends on the mood of the cop thats trailing you, if he's in a bad mood and you are going just one over, then he is in perfect authority to ticket you if he pleases, but if your lucky and come across a nice cop who's understanding and not on some sort of power trip, then you may get away with as much as 10....but it's up to you if you want to risk it, or if you are in a real hurry.

  7. You were well in the limit of not breacking the speed limit.

On rual highways the speed now is approx and not more than 85mph. 1mile over I would contest sound like a racial thing to me, if not that he's just being an but hl.

  8. I think 5 miles over the speed limit is safe to say. But no more then that. But there are some cops that will still give tickets, to meet their quotta, especially if it is the end of the month

  9. 100 hmp

  10. I drive a semi and even in my pick up I run about 5 over and never get looked at, and I run all 48 and Canada. my last speeding ticket was in Ar. for 72 in a 55 back in 92', I was looking at my log book anticipating the upcomming scale on I-40 and didn't have the cruise set and went stupid for a little bit.

  11. Depends on the MOOD of the POLICE

usually 5 over or 5 under

But you can go to court and get it off.

My Speedometer on my car GOES 5 less than it is supposed to I have no idea how but it is LOWER than posted

I go 65 but when clocked It shows 60.

    :)

  12. The legal limit is what is posted.

If all citizens obeyed the rules rather than pushing the limits, we would all be much safer on the road.

Instead many think rules where meant to be broken.

Grow up America and get off your cell phones and concentrate on the job at hand. "DRIVING SAFELY"~~~

  13. The risk of getting a ticket from the police in the US is very low if you are driving less than 10mph over the limit.  However, even in this range you can get ticketed if you are the only vehicle, and therefore an easy target.  Going with the flow of traffic is a safe bet in most cases - if you can work your way into the middle of a pack of speeders, it is almost impossible for a police officer to stop you.

Strictly speaking, even 1mph could get you a citation, but most judges would not like to entertain such a case in their court room.  Any citation is worth fighting, but especially those for <10mph over.

I have never been stopped for less than 7mph over, and never cited for less than 15mph over.  Your mileage may vary.

And to those who think we all should travel the speed limit, I'm 100% in agreement - as soon as the speed limit is raised to a reasonable level.  Our interstate highways are mostly designed for 85mph traffic, and they should be used as they were intended in my opinion.  But I digress.

In 99.99%+ of circumstances, 10mph over will leave you in the lowest category of speeding - police give tickets to collect money, and they will pass you by to catch someone going faster if there are any other potential targets.

  14. Then I hope you stay out of the passing lanes! My rule of thumb for freeways is that you can go 10mph over the speed limit before running the risk of getting a ticket. (though I am usually faster) It still wouldn't be considered "legal", nothing at all over the speed limit would be,  just most likely not worth being pursued over.

  15. If you go over the speed limit you are breaking the law.....but i suppose it depends on the individual officer ,......Me,.. i try not to go no more then 5mph over the speed limit.......But never go over 100 miles an hour because this is a Felony......Plus it can be bad for your health.

    Be safe sis!

    Peace

    Pete

  16. As a Christian, none!

  17. Depends on the juridsiction.  Some places go for strict enforement (Ohio) and some it appears no-one has found out yet.

    Legally, 0.

In PA, in an active construction zone, 1 mph can get you pinched.

  18. strictly speaking 0

In SD no one will look at you at 80 MPH on the Interstate

Our two lanes are 65 and I have been busted for 2 MPH over. The County Sherifs are more into generating revenue.

It all depends on where you live
