On the nikon d40, p setting, is the flash supposed to work automatically?

on the nikon d40, p setting, is the flash supposed to work automatically? or am I supposed to pop the flash? thank you!

In the green auto mode yes. In other modes, only if you select it.

i have a nikon d40 camera...

i can't say for sure, mainly because i use the manual mode, i don't have much need to use the automatic mode.. however, i know for a fact that when you use the auto mode, the flash does come up automatically... and if you don't want it up, you'd have to put it down yourself, which does take more time, there's not much difference between the auto mode and the P mode, it allows you more control, so i don't think it's come up, i think you'll have to put it up yourself..
