....... But when do you make this turn when you are a "jet" aircraft?

(I'm wondering because normally, I would expect something like "After 2 DME BOS, turn left heading 140"?!

  1. This RWY requires an IMMEDIATE turn to 140 degrees. there is no DME distance predicated for that turn off RWY 22L/R. Normally LNAV will start your turn at 400 ft or if you're flying it manually then i'd do it at 500 ft.

  2. the above answers are correct, except that most companies give you a minimum altitude to start any turn.  Mine says 400 feet, unless it's a special departure, and then you can start turning at 50 feet.

  3. Notice the 1 DME arc on the planform.

The point is to keep you feet wet and keep the noise away from all the people as long as possible.  Even if you are going west, you will turn to 140, have your track adjusted for wind to take out out of the harbor, then turn south down the coast.  And not until above 8000 will you turn west to whatever fix you are going to.

  4. You make the turn as soon as you safely can. That 1 DME arc is for another runway. It's not unusual to see an immediate turn after takeoff especially in noise sensitive areas.

  5. turn to a heading of 140 a-s-a-practiable... you will be going out to the harbor
