On ticking over there is groaning or grinding noise but when i give it some trottle its fine,any ideas?

Is this a Volksawagen or a Kawasaki? If it's a Kwakker, I wouldn't worry - could be cam chain rattle, or clutch basket noise.

sounds kinda like your starter bendix isn't releasing from the flywheel.

This needs a professional eye on it because it could either be a water pump bearing or a cam belt idler bearing - which, in the long term, if the engine just stops it could be very expensive to fix.
