I hope you drew the plans for the statue? You need a master builder for that, and it's going to be very hard to get one.

Are you sure you finished clearing the rubble and building the sewing hut?

You can get Trainee Builders relatively easily. Just drop them on the huts and they'll "fix" the huts. You have to baby-sit them because they won't do it on their own, but it's one way to train them.

There's also a potion that makes them exercise, which makes them gain skill. The potion is Black Orchid, Cactus, Tiger Lily. It may take a while, since they are not always successful in their exercising.

You could train children using the chief. Put the game on slow, pause it overnight, and start with newborn children. After several days some of them might reach Trainee status.
