On where to find the proper way of composing letters?

I am having a problem finding infomation on composing personel letters. The proper structure and phrasing, etc. I am quite new to this world of computers so it is a hit and miss stratagey that I use. I would greatly appreciate some imput. Help!

If you use MSWord they have templates (pre formed) letters you just fill in.
