  1. summer, June 21

  2. On the day of the summer solstice - right now, that is June 21.  The sun is at its farthest northern point in our sky from our perspective (the sun isn't actually changing its location, the Earth is tilted and that causes the sun to move north and south throughout the year).

And on the winter solstice (December 21) the sun is at its most southern point (therefore its lowest point) in the sky to northern observers.

  3. The Summer Solstice occurs about june 21, when the sun is in the zenith at the tropic of cancer. The Winter Solstice occurs about Dec. 21 when the sun is over the tropic of capricorn. The summer s is the longest day of the year and the winter s is the shortest.
