OnStar subscription?

I have OnStar on my 2001 Saab 9-5, but no account. I was wondering if you still get the airbag deployment call even without a subscription? Also, can you still push the emergency red button and get help without paying a monthly fee?

I understand that the directions and personal calling require a subscription, but what about the emergency services?

I am sure that it will still work for emergencies but nothing to do with airbag deployment........it should be just like a disconnected cell phone, you can still dial 911.
