  1. When the foliage turns yellow, usually in August, lift the bulbs and allow them to dry thoroughly in the sun. Tie the dried bulbs into bundles or braid the stalks and leaves and hang them up in a dry, cool, frost-proof place.

I keep mine in the unheated garage where the garlic stays fresh till next spring.

  2. The key to good storage is in the cutting. Sprea the plants out on a screen for good air circulation and CURE in full sun. If it's very warm or hot where you live, don't let them get a sunscald. Put them under a light screen as well. Avoid letting them get wet. It can take up to 2 weeks to cure them. When they're ready, their skins will be dry and the necks are tight. Remove the tops and store the bulbs in a cool. dry place. They should keep for between 5-8 months. Enjoy!
