Once i've harvested carrots how do you grow more, do you have to plant more seeds?

I planted roly poly carrots a little while ago and they look like they might be ready for harvesting soon. Once i pull them out what do i do next to continue growing carrots?

  1. Madam has it right.. They are in fact a biennial and the carrots produce seeds at top but only after thier second season..if left in the ground..of course the carrots will be of no use after 2 seasons and you will not be able to wait for the seeds if you want carrots the first season for by the time the second season comes and they produce seeds..it will be too late to plant carrots..so from start to producing seeds and then planting them..it will be into the 3rd planting season untill you use them


  2. If you pull them up, you'll need to plant more seeds. If you leave one or two in the ground, they may flower (but not until next year, I think -- I believe they are biennials), and you can get seeds from them next year.

    But it's easier and more reliable just to plant more seeds. If your carrots are hybrids, there's no telling what you might get for carrots in three years.

    (BTW, carrot flowers are really gorgeous, and smell great -- kind of like Queen Anne's Lace. If you have room, I think you should let one or two go wild just for the experience.)
