ipod supports mp4 format, so you need to rip dvd's to ipod mp4 format, and then drag them to your ipod with the sync of itunes library, which can be downloaded from http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ for free.

thus, you need a third party program to help you. i googled wondershare dvd to ipod ripper not long ago and found it fairly powerful, practical and easy to use. it offers a built-in ipod file manager which helps to transfer music, video, movies and tv shows between ipod and computer.

iPod can not support all format files.It can support MP4 format.

You need a convert software to help you convert the DVD to MP4 format.And then transfer the video that be converted to iTunes.
