Once in a Blue Moon for Hanagan
The jockey’s championship is going down to the wire with Richard Hughes cutting Paul Hanagan’s lead down to just three and with both racing at Wolverhampton today it should be an exciting day.
But it will be neither taking the spoils in the first race as Tom Eaves looks to secure a win in the Bet Premier League Football - Betdaq Maiden Stakes on Hygrove Gal.
The filly finished fourth at Catterick on soft ground to Captain Kolo, who looks like a decent prospect and in her first start she showed pace finishing a neck second to Old Master Expert. Although that horse hasn’t gone on to win again the pace Hygrove Gal showed on the good ground could be enough if she takes to the all-weather surface.
Expect her to be up with the leaders throughout the race and this time hopefully she will get her head in front.
If Hanagan wants to defend his lead in the jockey’s championship his best chance could come on Insolenceofoffice in the second division of the Bet Premier League Football - Betdaq Maiden Stakes.
The selection has been placed in each of his last six starts finishing second to Fieldgunner Kirkup last time out. He’s run at Wolverhampton before so the surface shouldn’t be a problem and against weaker opposition he should be able to finally break his maiden tag. And with Hanagan knowing how to get the best out of his horse in the final furlong, Insolenceofoffice looks set for a good run.
Hanagan could have another winner at Wolverhampton on Blue Moon in the Enjoy The Party Pack Group Offer Handicap. The filly likes the track here at Wolverhampton finishing fourth, third and second by a nose last time out. She’s 4lb higher in the weights today but has proven to stay the trip on both turf and the all-weather.
She will have to beat Inpursuitofffreedom who is looking for her third win in-a-row. Her most recent win came on Friday at Newmarket on soft ground and judging by her previous results on fast ground she won’t be in the frame today. Hughes takes the ride but it will be Hanagan who will be winning this race.
