You can only redeem the property right before the sale is held.  Once it is on the auction block, it is going to a new owner.

No, unless you go to the sheriff's sale and buy it for the highest bid.  That means you will need to have CASH to do so, and I'd venture you're quite short of that commodity.  Once it has gone through the sheriff's sale (and any redemption period has passed) the house is gone.
