I tried enlisting with the Marines in 07. i know ive posted alot of questions about different branches but im now interested in the Coast Guard to become a rescue swimmer. Im probably going to have to wait a year from next month since i will be getting off my cymbalta then, and the recruiter told me i have to wait a year.

my question is are my medical documents and physical going to be in the system still? or when i go to meps for the coast guard will i be an unknown person again and start all over like i was never there?

  1. Yes, it is still in the MEPS system. All service branches use the same MEPS. Unfortunately, with your history, I don't think you'll be able to serve. Getting waivers for mental health issues is VERY difficult. Especially in the Coast Guard. You could be doing a lot more productive things with your time then waiting to serve in a military that you aren't allowed to enlist in. I know it sucks. Deal.

  2. You are in the DOD system forever.  You could wait 10 years and as soon as you show up at any MEPS they will already know all about you.  Please be sure you have developed some real coping skills for stress before you take this idea of going CG seriously.  I don't know anything about your past questions at all, but all your tags you are adding onto this question make it appear that when things get tough you turn to drugs or alcohol or just break down.  The military, even the CG, are extremely stressful, everyday of the week.  If you cannot deal with 20 normal peoples amount of stress on a daily basis you need to move forward in life and maybe look at going to college to get your job training and leave the military be.  It could be an awesome choice for you if you are really a stronger and better person than whatever you were before, but if not your life will be h**l every moment.  Look deep inside yourself to see what you are made of before maybe making the wrong life choice here.  Good luck.

  3. Good, because if you really want to serve then keep your mouth shut because they won't take you with your past medical history.  They won't find out unless you tell them.  Don't listen to the people that say they do medical background checks or any of that c**p.

    cool.

  4. History of alcohol dependency is disqualifying for entry into the armed forces. The source below is to that medical standard.

MEPS keeps records for one year. Good luck with the lies.
