Ondrej Fojtik wins the second stage of the Crocodile Trophy 2012 and leads the stage 2 classifications
Ondrej Fojtik wins the stage 2 of the Crocodile Trophy 2012 after his heroic performance at the race.
The Czech rode exceptionally well during the 92 kilometre race and occupied the top podium position after completing the race in an impressive time of 3 hours, 32 minutes and 25 seconds.
Fojtik registered a convincing victory and was not really challenged by any cyclist during the event as he marched across the finish-line with a huge margin of over 7 minutes.
Ivan Rybaric of Team Rubena Rocky finished second with a deficit of 7 minutes and 58 seconds, while Cory Wallace, Wolfgang Krenn and Ondrej Slezak secured the third, fourth and the fifth positions in the respective order.
Rybaric, the overnight classifications leader lost too much time to Fojtik and is now dropped down to the second overall spot after the Crocodile Trophy stage 2 classifications.
Ondrej is now the new overall leader of the race after the stage 2 classifications, thanks to his huge lead victory during the stage 2.
"I had actually planned to save some energy today, but on the last climb I felt good and the thought of the leader's jersey was really motivating and kept me going," he noted.
Ivan Rybaric of Team Rubena Rocky Trail Racing is dropped 4 minute and 26 seconds behind at the second position with the Canadian cyclist Cory Wallace holding the third spot.
Wolfgang Krenn, Ondrej Slezak, Mike Mulkens, Steven Rankine, Dominick Hrinkow, Josef Benetseder and Mike Blewitt occupied the next six positions in the respective order.
Kate Major wins the women’s category of the race with a huge lead of over 30 minutes on the second place finisher Alice Pirard of Team O2 Bikers-WMTB.be-Schwalbe.
"I've never done anything like this," she said after winning the race.
"I take every day as it comes, I've done so much racing, so this is my holiday”.
“I'm here to have fun and to ride through those rainforests was just magnificent today. You won't get that on a tourist bus, that's for sure!"
Kate is now leading the women general classifications with a total margin of 31 minutes and 13 seconds over Alice Pirard.
Tinneke Van de Voorde, Jade Forsyth, Annie van der linde and Kirsten De Keyser currently holds the third, fourth and the fifth positions in the respective order.
