Ondrej Pavelec addresses the media at Atlanta Thrashers practice
Atlanta Thrashers goalie Ondrej Pavelec skated with his team for the first time since he fainted early in the team's season opener against the Washington Capitals on 8 October, and took the time to discuss his condition with the media.
"I'm no doctor, but they [said] I just faint...They said there are so many reasons it could have happened, but they couldn't find it."
Pavelec is out indefinitely after receiving a concussion when he hit his head on the ice after falling.
Pavelec was kept in hospital for two nights and, even upon his release, has returned several times to undergo tests.
"I think they did all tests they can do...For three days, it was all tests. Three days. So I'm sick of it a little bit. I don't want to see the hospital for a while."
Pavelec, who had no recollection of the game, said that the scariest moment for him was waking up in the ambulance with no idea of what had happened.
"I don't know what's going on, what happened...Nobody tell me. And I couldn't feel my legs, so I was a little bit worried about what happened. But when I get to hospital, I start to feel my legs. Doctors start to tell me what happened. After those tests
in the hospital, right away, they tell me I'm going to be fine, so I was very happy."
Thrashers head coach Craig Ramsay couldn't speculate as to exactly when Pavelec would be able to return to the lineup, but was happy to see his goalie with his team again.
"It was good to see him out there. We were just trying to get him some work and a sweat, let him find out where he is (in his recovery). ... I'm sure it felt good to get his equipment on again and
face some shots."
"When they tell me he's really ready to go hard, then we'll work him hard and try to find out where he is. But after training camp, I think he was in reasonably good shape, so I don't think it'll take too long."
