One Spirit in form for the Group 3 Ballycorus Stakes at Leopardstown
The Group 3 Ballycorus Stakes will get contested by eight three-year-old runners over seven furlongs at Leopardstown on Thursday, 14th June. The prize money at stake is €37,375. The candidates are a mix of those who have already set their footings
in the new season and then there are those too who will race their seasonal debut today.
The only entry who did race at the race course, Glor Na Mara, could not really do justice to it by failing to a fifth position on the track of nine.
Most consistent in terms of performance during the new season is One Spirit, Invincible Spirit’s four-year-old bay filly out of mare, Recite.
Her seasonal debut was in the Group 3 Tri Equestrian Stakes on 26th May at Curragh over a mile. She settled second right after the 4/5 favourite winner of the race, Emulous, who was riding with P. J. Smullen. The two led the track by 1 ¾ lengths.
Concluding the race third in line was Alanza.
The four-year-old did not take very long to prove herself and displayed her potential in the very next chance that she got.
One Spirit won the Owenstown Stud Stakes (Listed Race) on 4th June at Naas over seven furlongs. With N. G. McCullagh onboard, she led the 4/1 joint favoutire runner up of the race, Gordon Lord Byron, by a length.
Parking at the third spot was Glor Na Mara while the other joint favourite of the race, Banna Boirche, ended seventh on the field of ten.
She has raced and won at Leopardstown once during the previous season.
She will have to look out for Rodrigo De Torres, Bahamian Bounty’s five-year-old chestnut gelding out of mare, Leonica. He has been fairly successful ever since the new season kick started with a win, two second scores, a fourth ranking and a miserable defeat
in one of the five outings that he undertook.
He won the Totepool.Com Sports, Games, Bingo & More Conditions Stakes on 6th June at Nottingham over a mile and half a furlong. He won against the 2/1 favourite of the race, Invisible Man.
The two are going to make it an interesting race today.
