Every day you see ads on the TV telling us to turn off all appliances that are plugged in, saving on gas emissions etc etc... With all new house that are being built, why not have one 'easy access' switch. This switch would be connected via every power point in the house, so therefore by turning it off it turns off every single power point in the house...When the last person leaves the house, switch it off, when they come home switch it on...

You would have things like fridges that cant be turned off.. But for most powerpoints could be 'networked' via this one switch..

  1. I've got an idea, why don't we let the government control our master switch, so they can decide when we should be saving energy?

jk thats actually not a bad idea.  You could just have a button by your door or something.

  2. Just as long as you dont have to reset all the clocks evrytime lol

  3. thats a good idea, it would save the trouble and make it easier..much easier to save electricity as well...

but if you turn the switch on, doesnt that make all the powerpoints turn on, even the ones not needed at the time?

    idk :P

  4. You'll also want to put your alarm clock on that hardwired powerpoint.

    Fish tanks, too.

  5. THAT SOUNDS LIKE A VERY GOOD IDEA

  6. If you look one could make top/bottom/both of the out-let switchable.  Its an easy DIY project.

As you leave the room, one flick of the switch turns what you want off.  Bedroom, turn it all off, living room/TV, turn it all off, kitchen, leave on the refrigerator and answering machine.

  7. Well I dunno about your place, but we have this thing in India where we can switch off the everything with just one "master" switch....There is an option to keep running some appliances like fridge etc. This do helps in saving electricity but more importantly it depends on the people if they do it....

Yeah dats a nice idea to save electricity but certainly needs people's participation in it cuz if the whole community or country do it, then there is any plus point for it...

EDIT : Turn the whole house off ? lol

Its different here, it will cut the power supply to only those points which are connected to that master switch...we can change the points connected, so that really helps !!

  8. hmmm.  good idea!

  9. Sounds like a good idea Damo.
