Question:

One Word doc displays the text in Helvetica?

However, when I try to create a new document, Helvetica is not an option in the drop down of fonts. Helvetica is not in my list of Fonts in Control Panel. But again, another Word document that I open on same computer does have Helvetica as it's font. How can I add Helvetica to my available fonts in Word?

  1. You can easily download the Helvetica font from here:

    http://www.fontseek.com/fonts/helvetica....

  2. Interesting problem! Here are a couple of thoughts. My first thought is that the document that has Helvetica was typed on another computer with Helvetica. The computer is still trying to read it, but is just grabbing it locally from the document.

The other option is that something weird is going on, and you do have the font. Go to C:\Windows\Fonts and look for Helvetica in that list. If it's there, something's mucked up with your Word. If it's not, it's probably the first option.

  3. Sounds like the author of that document was smart and turned on the Include TrueType Fonts in Document option for machines such as yours.  Someone to emulate!

As to getting Helvetica on your machine, I'm sure you can download the font from the Web, quite possibly from Microsoft's web site itself.

Installation isn't much more than putting the files (usually after extracting them from some container file) into the C:\Windows\Fonts directory.  The files you're looking to move will probably end in .fon or .ttf.

    Hope that helps.
