I have a 15 month old. I'm looking for an apt but didn't know whether I had to get a 2 bedroom or could rent a 1 bedroom.

  1. Depends on the state you are in.  I know in I believe it is TN they require 2 bedrooms if you have a child but some states will allow you to have 1 bedroom until the child is 5 years old (sometimes longer if you are a single parent with a child of the same gender).

  2. Go for a 2 bedroom so you each have your own room, Assuming you are a single parent, having to share your bedroom with your child will cramp your style with a future boyfriend later on ya know

  3. I heard from an apartment complex i tried to rent from its the law at least in Texas if your child is one or over they need their own room and you can not get a one bedroom..

  4. It's your choice. Also depends on how many years you plan to live there. Living with your ten-yr-old in a one-br might get a bit crowded.

Your little one will be much happier close to you, of course.

Moms have kept their babies with them at night since the dawn of humanity. Don't believe anyone who tells you the baby benefits from a seperate room. The parents benefit, certainly.

On the other hand, a second bedroom wouldn't do any harm (place to keep the toys), and this way you can let your child decide when s/he is ready to make the move to a separate room.

    Enjoy your new nest!

  5. You can rent a 1 bedroom, but I would go with a 2 bedroom.

  6. doctors recommend only sharing a room with your child until the age of 6 months, otherwise you may have some issues with seperation anxiety.  good luck on your search :)

  7. I don't think there are laws about it if that's what you're asking. I think they only specify those things with foster children. Or in some states if you are getting an apartment with some kind of state assistance they'll make you get a bedroom for each child. Otherwise I'm pretty sure it's up to you.

  8. the cost and needs of your family will dictate what you rent.
