How many more miles per hour does the faster car travel than the slower car?

  4. Is this an arithmetic test??  We were taught this in 4th grade (almost60 years ago   go for me)!

    This one of course has a couple loopholes in it! The average speed of 45 mph is almost "concrete figure".  But average speed of 36 miles, not starting how long (or how far) has no definite answer unless we put in a demarcation point!

    So If both cars travel at stated speeds for one hour the faster one went 12 miles further! This naturally converts to 12 mph!

    I don't know if the new math comes out to 48 minus 36 equals 12 but that is the way it was in the "old days"!
