Are these 2 related? We just had the upstairs coils replaced for the 2nd time in 1 1/2 years. our home is only 2 1/2 years old. Now our new condensor unit for the downstairs is totally quit. It is under a year old. The upstairs is now not cooling good, since the one broke yesterday and it is the one we just had the coils replaced several weeks ago. We feel we have lemons for units. It one condensor is out, so this mean the one upstairs will get hotter, because heat rises? I am cluless as to what is going on.

  1. When it rains it pours.I agree.Sounds like you are feeling poor installation or two poorly made units.Glad you didn't give the make or their sales may be affected.Coils and compressors are usually warrantied for 3 years or more. The warranty varies for the labor.I'm glad you have the one working so you can get some cooling.

You are right about the upstairs having a greater load and will probably run nonstop untill the downstairs is back up.Ask as many questions as you can about the warranties.Good luck.

  2. all of this should be under warranty but its a pain always having to get someone out to fix them call the manufacturer they may have a problem with their tech

  3. Exactly, your upstairs unit is also taking on the load from below.

I'm sure once the downstairs unit is repaired it will work fine.

If your downstairs unit is under a year old you installer should do a warranty repair for you.

Make sure its not just a breaker tripped or they may charge you for the trip.

Also make sure the filters are clean, this is the responsibility of the homeowner.
