One day my Ovulation Predictor stick gave me positive very next day Negative??why

I am 28 and have been ttc for about 3 months. i have started using the ovulation predictor kit and one day it came up positive and the very next day i got a negative result. Why ??

  1. Your LH sure only lasts for one day, so the OPtest will only be positive one day per month. Once you get the positive result you need to bd that night and the next day. Those are your two most fertile days of the cycle.

    There is no need to keep using the sticks that month after you get your positive surge. Save the rest for the next month.

Women can have a surge lasting anywhere from a half day to 5 days.  Some women (like me) have to test with OPK twice a day to catch the surge.  Others have a long surge.  The most common length of surge is 1-2 days, so getting one surge is typical.  The best way to use OPK is along with basal body temperature (BBT) readings.  That way you can monitor your BBT to be sure you have a thermal shift 1-2 days after your first positive OPK.  If you do not, you may have had a false surge and you should keep testing.  If you do, you can stop checking for ovulation because the thermal shift confirms it.
