  1. One Handed Backahnd Topspin -

use an eastern grip which closes more of the racquet face at impact.  Your racquet path must start below the height of the ball and swing from LOW to HIGH....thus generating topspin!  In addition, topspin brings the ball down and into the court so aim HIGHER over the net, otherwise you are just collecting balls on your side of the net!

NO FOLLOW THROUGH? (Does your coach mean on groundstrokes or volleys?)

I will assume he means one-handed backhand ground strokes!

Come on without follow through your racquet is decelerating at contact and not accelerating! (You need racquet acceleration = racquet head speed to produce topsin and get it over the net.)  It would be impossible to consistently hit ground strokes with any degree of accuracy and control without a follow through!

  2. I like 2 handed backhand better because you get topspin and more power with it, i only use one handed backhands only when i want to make a shot close to the net

  3. Get use to it that way for now and if you mastered it you could follow through for top spin.

  4. yes, i think its very important to have a good follow through in tennis. it will give you more power, alot more control, and more variety.

    Select backhand from the options

    Read and watch it

  6. By not following through i think he means not bending or snapping your wrist, which is the correct way to start hitting a one handed backhand.  However if he means to hit the ball and then stop hes out of his mind.

Its only when you snap your wrist will you start to generate the topspin.

Federer is famous for this form, it looks really cool, but is extremely difficult.  Most often you'll end up framing it, which is way your coach wants you to keep a firm wrist.

  7. My coach sucks as well... but he did tell me to follow through from low to high on a one handed backhand. It gives more control and the angle should be more accurate (on ground strokes). If you want to see a really good one handed backhand watch Richard Gasquet's<3
