One is accident, two is careless and 3 is a shambles, HBO forced to halt production on “Luck” after third horse dies

American Humane Association (AHA) has demanded that all production involving horses shut down. That statement was issued when a horse that was part of the series “Luck” died at Santa Anita Park, and in result HBO sent out a statement on 14 March, 2012,
that they have decided to call off all production of the horse racing drama.
This was the third horse that died during the production of the of the series, and the AHA are adamant that this stoppage must remain in full effect, and the cancellation of the series should be followed by a comprehensive and thorough investigation,
as to why so many fatalities involving horses have occurred during the filming of this series.
Though, the last horse that died did not die on the set, as she was taken back to her stable by a groom when she reared and fell backwards hitting her head on the ground, incurring a head injury, and was later had to be euthanized.
The series was renewed by HBO with the casting of Dustin Hoffman for the second season which was started on January this year, but the show was already under heavy criticism from the animal rights activists, when two of the three horses died during
the production of the series.
"The CHRB is assured by those onsite at Santa Anita who are responsible for equine health and safety that every precaution was being taken to protect the horses appearing in the HBO program," it continued. "In fact, because the filming was taking place
in an enclosure within the CHRB’s jurisdiction, the level of care for these animals exceeded the level of care for animals on other filming locations. Everyone involved in the handling of the horses that appeared on Luck is licensed by the CHRB and qualified
to do so."

Though the series “Luck” has reeled in a strong cast and a creative team, but they have failed to live up to the hype that was created before the show even started, because according to the press reports, the premier did not attract a huge crowd, which is a
wakeup call for producers who are looking to film a series on horseracing.
