One more Gold for Great Britain after the men’s team pursuit victory
Team Great Britain is having a terrific Olympic Games and has pleased the home crowd with its numerous top performances in the first half of the 2012 season.
The team sets a world record in the final men’s team pursuit against Australia on August 3rd, Friday and secured its second consecutive Olympics gold medal at the event.
Edward Clancy, Steven Burke, Peter Kennaugh and Geraint Thomas helped the English side with a much needed victory over its major rival, Australia.
It managed to finish the race in an impressive time of 3:51.659 and defeated Jack Bobridge, Glenn O’shea, Rohan Dennis and Michael Hepburn of Team Australia.
"I could have done with a bigger gear to be honest, I felt like my legs were going to come off”.
“But it was the same feeling as Beijing - we just went out, got on the pace and that was it. Man after man, we just kept it going”.
“Burke and Ed were just phenomenal. Me and Pete were just trying to hold the pace they dropped us off at".
On the other hand, the Australian cyclists were disappointed on the defeat and admitted that they were no match to the British cyclists on the day when it mattered.
Jack Bobridge noted that the Australian team had dreamt of the Olympics gold since the past four years and the defeat has really shattered their hopes.
He explained that his side made no mistakes and everything went according to the plan but still could not match the likes of in-form British cyclists.
“You can't be too disappointed when the team who beats you does a world record. Great Britain did everything perfect. They were the better team on the day," Durbridge briefed.
Sam Bewley, Marc Ryan, Jesse Sergent and Aaron Gate of Team New Zealand defeated Evgeny Kovalev, Ivan Kovalev, Alexey Markov and Alexander Serov of Team Russia to secure the bronze medal.
Team Great Britain also managed the top spot at the women’s team pursuit with Team United States, Team Australia, Team Canada and Team New Zealand holding the next four spots.
