When you are bidding on an item is it always the rule that you cannot see the other bidders name, they just show up as bidder 1, bidder 2 etc? Many thanks in advance

  1. No, you can see the ID of other bidders and their maximum bids.

If yo check the item, you will see 'History' and how many bids have been placed. ie. '2 Bids', if you click on the amount of bids it will show the bidding history and names of bidders.

    Hope this helps!!!

    .

  2. no, not always, but seller can choose for the bidders ID to remain hidden if they want

also go to the community forums on Ebay and you will get the low down on all the tricks and scams - very interesting reading

  3. chocotabbie,

ebay hides the real IDs of any bidder if an item goes over $200.

you will then see IDs that look like this:

    p***o, r***s, m***g, etc...

some sellers do keep their bidders IDs private on some items, but that is at the sellers discretion.

it happens mostly on things like expensive jewelry, high end art, luxury items, etc...

you are safe on ebay as long as you remember this:

if you are buying on ebay, ALWAYS

pay through PAYPAL and fund it with a CREDIT CARD.

then if anything goes wrong and PAYPAL can't get you a refund, you then have the option of filing for a CHARGEBACK through your CC provider.

    PAY SAFE, STAY SAFE!

NEVER, EVER send anyone WESTERN UNION!

NEVER click on a link in any email!

if you see the words NIGERIA, ROMANIA or CHINA, RUN LIKE THE WIND!

90% + of ALL DESIGNER items on ebay are FAKES, COUNTERFEITS or simply don't exist.

NEVER make any deals "off ebay", meaning you must bid and win an actual auction.

if a seller emails you and tells you he will sell to you w/o you being the WINNING BIDDER, report the email and ignore the offer!

  4. sometimes it shows who else as bid, but ebay are switching to make it so you can not see the other users id when they bid just the stats of what they have bid on in the last 30 days

    regards x kitti x

  6. yes they have changed it so you don't no there information to stop any fraud going on so you will see bidder 1 ir bidder 3 that is what they do know

  7. Sometimes, when it is a private auction, you can't see the name of the other bidders, but if it isn't you should be able to see the user's ID.

  8. Ebay recently introduced the system where if the price goes over £100 then all the bidders name become numbers this is meant to protect them but I have never really figured out what from

  9. No, you can see the other bidders name, or at least their Username.
