  1. That was a good match.  I remember watching that one, but I think the game 5 days later was better.  Wales beat Australia 22-21 to take 3rd place.  I remember watching that one at my rugby club, the whole clubroom exploded.

Pretty tough to name any game as the greatest of all time.  Australia and NZ played one a few years ago that was a classic with NZ going out to a huge lead and Australia coming back to lead late before Jonah won it in the last minute.

One of my favourites though was Romania vs Zimbabwe in the 1987 RWC.  That game was AMAZING.  Goal line defensive stands by both teams, scrambling defense, line breaks galore... it was awesome... two extremely evenly matched teams.  Romania won 21-20 but there was more excitement than a game with 100 points scored.

  2. I'll see that and I'll raise you this...

fiona at least get your facts straight...it was Phil Bennet side stepping in his 22..

  3. The best match in history is The Barbarians versus New Zealand at the old Cardiff Arms Park (1971, I think).

New Zealand kicked off and soon had the Baa-Baas trapped on their own try line. The ball went to Gareth Edwards, well behind the try line, and he swerved his way out of trouble and started a movement that involved a succession of passes involving the entire back division and some of the forwards, leading all the way to the New Zealand try line where Edwards went over for a try. Less than ninety seconds had elapsed!
