One of my colleagues keeps throwing half eaten pieces of fruit in my office garbage can....?

And fruit flies quickly take over everything. It's so annoying and I've politely asked him several times to not do it. How do you suggest I handle the situation?

Or better yet replace your garbage bin with a raccoon..as luck would have it, I have 2!!!

I have a better one!!! When I used to work in an office and I'd have chinese food, I used to take it home so it wouldn't stink up the office, but then this chick kept making snarky remarks at me so friday nights when they were no cleaning people, I used to toss my chinese food in her trash!!!

The guy is an a$$hole.  Put a large book over the top of you garbage can trapping the fruit flies inside and take it into his office and let the fruit flies go.  If he says something to you just say..."and?"

Move the garbage can to his work area and let him deal with it.  Seriously!  You've already spoken to him.  Just don't you put anything in the garbage can.

Move your garbage can to another location that only you can reach.  Also put a lid on it.

If your garbage can will fit in a drawer then put it in a drawer (and lock it if possible).  Otherwise, just get rid of your garbage can.  When ever you need to throw away something just use his garbage can.

Take the little ball out of his mouse, and put the mouse back as though it looks normal. Laugh at him when he realises what's wrong, then throw the little ball at his head.

take the trash and go dump it back into his wastebasket if he has one. If he doesn't, then put a lid on the can or move it where he has no access. Hope this helps....

You could just pick up the trash can and set it right beside his desk if his is clean grab his.  Hopefully at this point he will get the hint.

Put your garbage can in his office/cubicle and let him see the effects of his behavior.

I'd try one last confrontation, where you politely point out that the fruit smells and is attracting insects, and that he needs to put it in the proper receptacle.  Be really clear and firm about what you'd like him to do.  Tell him what the consequence will be if he fails to comply, and stick with it.  If I were in your shoes, I'd tell him I plan to return it to his wastebasket or desk.  Does he do it when you are there?  If you catch him in the act, that's the time to bring it up.  If he does not, set up a hidden video camera.
