while both of my Tom cats are very affectionate ( which i love! ), One of them kneads my scalp and my hair constantly whenever he gets the chance! I wouldnt mind so much buy it can hurt on the scalp and can be annoying when trying to relax and cuddle with my fiance on the sofa! Why does my Tom cat do this and not the other one? As they are both brothers from the same litter, and is there anything I can do to stop him if its not normal? ( and please, stupid answers to do with shooting them like someone did on my last question )

  1. my girlfriends cat does this to me.. Ive been told its remembering back to its time as a kitten.. They knead their mothers stomachs to get the milk running.. Atleast with her cat it meant it was comfy..

  2. I don't know why one of them started the habit but whenever he starts, I would just remove him, immediately and gently with a "No" and not pet him for again for about 20-30 minutes.  It could be that he does it when he is over-stimulated.  But it's not anything I'm familiar with and you don't ever want him doing it to a guest.  :)

  3. He misses his momma - that's what nursing kittens do to the queen to get the milk flowing. Both my cats do it, but especially my shelter kitty who was bottle fed and so imprinted strongly on humans.

So you have to do what the queen does when she weans them: gently push him away. He'll get the idea eventually.

  4. i pretty much have the same answer as linadee.  i just push my cat that kneads my hair away when he kneads to 'hard'.  after a while he stopped kneading so hard.

  5. my cat boots does the same thing, i think its a sign of affection. dont worry about it. you could just get up. pick him up and put him down on the floor. keep doing that, and maybe he will get the idea. my cat actually rubs his face on my head.

  6. Your kitty just thinks of you as his mother. Every cat has a different personality, just as people do. I have had many cats through the years& only a few of them did that. My kitty that died in Febuary (She would of been 20 years old in March) used to do that to me every morning, when it was time to get up.(& purr very loudly) Just like clockwork.I would just gently frab her paws (& claws lol) & she would eventually stop. How I miss her!  So just gently grab hold of his paws & tell him no claws please! & He should let up on the claws anyway & it won't hurt as bad. He is just showing you how much he loves you. That's all.
